TECHNOLOGY -- XM Satellite Radio unveiled a new radio Monday - the XpressRC - that features advanced browsing capabilities with a real-time programming guide showing multiple channel data, artist names and song titles. The unit also features a full-color split-screen display, 60-minute pause and replay, and the ability to save up to 10 favorite songs.
SATELLITES -- MDA completed the integration and testing of Canada's next-generation Earth observation satellite, RADARSAT-2. Recently, the launch provider experienced delays in a launch and rescheduled the RADARSAT-2 launch to December 2007. RADARSAT-2 was developed by MDA with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), integrated and tested at the CSA's David Florida Laboratory in Ottawa, and will replace RADARSAT-1 offering an expanded range of high quality radar imagery.
TECHNOLOGY -- iDirect and DTECH LABS completed testing on the DTECH WHISPER VoIP System on iDirect's iNFINITI VSAT broadband platform. The integration of the WHISPER system with the iDirect line of satellite hubs and remotes can provide end users with up to a 600 percent increase in VoIP call capacity over a single remote iDirect satellite link. The system can also reduce the amount of bandwidth required to support standard VoIP traffic by more than 30 percent, the company said.
MULTIPLATFORM -- Netflix unveiled a multiplatform campaign for the release of "Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends." Developed under the company's Red Envelope Entertainment banner, the deal includes exclusive television, retail and worldwide distribution agreements through partnerships with Thirteen/WNET New York, Target and Warner Home Video.
CORRECTIONS -- Let's see if we can get this straight. Regarding DISH's external hard drive upgrade, both new and existing subs can pay a one-time activation fee of $39.99 to enable the feature on either the 622 or 722. The 722, available this week, is free to new subscribers, the company said.
